New years resolution... be a better blogger!

Hello everyone! Boy it has been a while!

Quite a lot has changed in my life since I last spoke to you! Mainly I have moved out and now live with my boyfriend in our own wee house! This has enabled me to spread out my obsessive collections of make up and perfumes rather than being restricted to one room! So there are a lot of new things I am hoping to review/chat about with you all!

I am also thinking about doing fashion posts. As a bigger girl both in height and in bottom I often find it tricky finding things that I like and that suit me. So I plan on sharing my outfit successes and failures with you!

I will be back soon with a proper post for you all to read!

June Favourites

Over the past month I have found myself reaching for the same few products, I just got back from Fuertaventura a couple of weeks ago, so my skin has changed to a slightly less deathly shade of pale, which has ultimately meant that my make-up has changed a bit. Its also meant I've been using more potions and lotions in my hair and on my skin - both of which got really dry on holiday :( mew.

1. So my first favourite of this month has been Nars Orgasm multiple and blush. So I got both of these on holiday last year, the multiple is just a mini, and is almost finish, but i really love it. What I like to do is put it on my cheeks as a sort of base, then put the powder blush over the top of it. Realistically, I probably wouldnt suggest buying both for this reason, I mean they are both the same colour, but if you have them, give it a go, it makes it last so much longer!

2. Secondly Ive been enjoying wearing slightly more colour on my lips, I usually stick to just lipbalms, or paler/neutral lipglosses and lipsticks. Recently though, my favourite lip product to reach for has been Macs tinted lip conditioner in plum perfect, it gives your lips a really dewy and soft look with just the right level of red for my skintone. I know that sleek also have similar products, at a much more reasonable price range, I cant say anything for them mind you, but if any of you have got them or tried them, let me know what they are like, and I might pick up some other colours from their line.

3. Johnsons baby lotion - yup, a cheap and cheerful moisturiser, which I cant seem to fault. I've been using it on my body, and my face. It is such a light and moisturising formula, at a great price. I personally have the original one in the pink bottle, but I know they have a few different versions. I would reccomend giving this a go, and if its not for you, its not a huge loss on the old finances. Personally though, this is my new must have product - Amazeable!

4. My next favourite this month has been Bedheads Brunette Goddess Shine Spray. It gives a lovely shine to dry hair, and makes it look instantly healthier. Plus it smells amazing! Like a coffee/chocolate smell, may not sound like the kind of smell you want in your hair, but believe me, its lavly! :0)

5. Finally, my favourite perfume this month is my new edition to the collection! D&G "3", I am no good at describing scents, but it really is lovely smelling, the only thing is, it doesn't have a great staying power, I wont lie that really irritates me (especially when you pay a lot of money for something!) but the smell does redeem it slightly, as it is a lovely fresh scent. I suggest giving it a sniff for yourself next time your in Debenhams (or wherever you go :P)

So thats the end of my favourites for this month! Feel free to leave a comment with your favourites for this month, I'd love to find some new great products!

Boo! Ive tried to upload photos to this, but it seems to be having none of it! I will edit it this to have some photos at a later date! :)

My excuses.

So I have been gone... for a while, I can only apologize, but I am back, and hopefully will be able to make a lot of new bloggy posts. In fact, not hopefully, I will! So my excuses mainly fall on Uni. This was my final year, so I had a lot of essays, as well as a 3 month placement. Usually this is the best part of the year for me, but unfortunately this year... well lets just say it wasn't a good placement for me. Anyway, once all the drama of that was over, and all the essays were finally handed in, I got to graduate on Friday past! Woohoo!! (Il add a wee piccy to this post to let you see) I wandered around my house the night before with the gowns on in a Harry Potter-esque way all night! It was a lovely day, we got the only sunny day of the week, and we then went on to have a nice meal. I say a nice meal - it was the best dinner ive ever eaten! Anyway, Im away to write another beauty related post straight after this one, so until next time my friends!

Lushhhhhh

So for the past few months I have been really in to my lush things! If anything, just for the smell they leave in my room! So I like to keep my items stored in a bowl in my room to let the room get lushafied! (Yup, I made that word up!) A couple of months ago I went and bought quite alot of stuff so that I could start the "lush bowl" I bought the comforter bubble bar, porridge soap, rockstar soap, each peach massage bar, and The godmother soap. Now, lush isnt cheap, So when I buy things from there I like to make them last as loooong as possible! To do this i use things in very small portions. I cut all the soaps up - if you put a whole block in your bathroom it tends to dry up really quickly. I also break my bubble bars up - rather than there reccomended 2 uses per bar I get about 8 - not to worry, loads of bubbles still come from even a small amount of a bubble bar.

As the months past my lush bowl got noticeably emptier, thanks to my lovely mum and dad I got a couple of items for Christmas including, a new comforter bubble bar, so white bath bomb, and the snow fairy lip balm yummmm! Unfortunately, me being me I couldnt resist the rumour that Lush was having a sale,  so I decided to go into said sale which had all of their Christmas stock reduced to half price, as well as any stock which was nearing its use buy date. So while I was there I bought a few goodies! These included, The candy cane bubble bar (which is almost gone now, sob), angels delight soap, Once a year massage bar, fairy jasmine bath bomb, and finally a bath bomb which I cant for the life of me remember the name of! I managed to get all of this for under £10!!! That is incredible if you ask me!

So, as a Jenniandthebets blog post isnt a blogpost without some eyecandy, here is a picture of the loot!

Ring Ring... Ring Ring... Hello?

So this post is taking a new direction, aswell as my love for make up I also have quite the obsession with fashion and jewellery! Particularly, cheap jewellery! Yes, I loooove getting a nice piece of real jewellery for Christmas or a birthday or something, but when it comes to me shopping for me I stick to cheap and cheerfull. In doing this I tend to go to places like, Matalan, New look, Primark, Asda, anywhere willing to offer me some "cheap thrills" for no more than £10.

Most recently I have found my cheap jewellery obsession leading me towards cocktail rings! The bigger and tackier the better. I simply love them! Something about wearing a massive gold and purple ring with my work clothes really pleases me, I mean, its not like a necklace that only other people can enjoy, no, by wearing a ring as my showpeice I can look at it any time I want! (Apologies for the blue tinge on all of the rings, bloomin webcam!)

So I have decided to share with you some of my favourite cocktail rings which I have managed to get for less than £10. For the most part they are from Matalan, however I think 1 (The green flower) was from the shop Papyrus in Glasgow... Im afraid I don't know if its a chain or not : ( but I have no doubts there will be plenty of similar items on the market!

And just incase anyone was curious, I keep them in this lovely little cup!
New post coming straight up after this one!

Disappointments over the years

So, I am sure we have all felt the pain of bitter disappointment after having just dished out your hard earned cash (be it £3 or£30, the pain is always there!)on a product which simply was not what you had hoped for! Well, fear not, for I am going to tell you some of the worst culprits in my opinion! Now, I will say, that just because I happen to be disappointed with something, it doesn't necessarily mean you will too, different folks different strokes... and all that jazz.

So, lets begin, disappointment numero one!

Mac Zoom Lash
So this was one of my first Mac products I ever bought, before my days of watching YouTube beauty videos, and reading make up blogs. Which, subsequently meant that I hadn't heard the common reviews that Mac mascaras are often not seen as the best. So there I was, handing over my £12 (give or take) for something which i put all my trust in was going to be a great product. I mean, don't get me wrong, I would go as far to say for the first few weeks I was kidding myself by saying that this was a good mascara, simply because the name implied it should be. Luckily I managed to snap out of it and realise that actually, this did nothing for me, it clumped up my lashes, and had too wet a consistency for my liking. This being said, I have heard brilliant reviews on this since, but in my opinion, I would spend your money on a different mascara, favourites of mine include, buxom lash, clinique mascaras in general, and maxfactor false lash effect mascara.

Benefit Some Kind of Gorgeous

I will start this disappointment by saying, that actually, this is a lovely product, my disappointment was in no way about the product, instead it was for how little you get for so much money! ( As a rule, I tend to find Benefit overpriced as it is - yet the cute packaging suckers me in every time!) Again, this was an early purchase within my make up obsession, so was at the time perhaps unaware of how long such a product should last! Now, I don't particularly use a lot of foundation, definitely no more than your average bear. So when i ran out of this in just over a month I was very disappointed! As I am sure you can imagine! It have pondered over whether it was my own compact that somehow didn't come with the right amount of foundation, or if it was simply that this is rather tight with the old productaroony! I am opting for the latter. I definitely feel that there are cream foundations that work just as well, for either a fraction of the price, or with more product!

Korres Lip butter

For this product I was well read, I had listened to reviews watched videos with "gurus" raving about it, and I was well and truly sucked into the hype. How couldn't I be?! They were the lip balm of the moment, with people claiming they had some sort of magic powers on your lips, so I, being me, paid the $10ish dollars ( bought this on holiday) for what I can only describe as... a normal lip balm. I mean it is nice, it smells nice, and it gives a slightly "paling" effect to the lips, but I just cant deny that it isn't anything I haven't seen before, so, In the words of Alan Sugar. "With regret, you're fired!"

MAC Macroviolet fluidline

I am a fluidline junky. I love blacktrack, I love dipdown. So as in November time when I found myself running low I thought I would go festive and go for macroviolet, after all, I (thought) knew that the quality would be good, and it would be nice and pigmented, perfect for Christmas nights out. So you can imagine my disappointment when I brought this home and gave it a whirl only to find that it was by no means on par with the others I had tried. It was a weak colour, by no means was the colour it looked in the pot, if anything it came out just a muddy colour on my eyes. To add insult to injury, this also doesn't have the same staying power as the others, I find myself having to set it with an eyeshadow, just for it to last the working day. I would love to know how people feel about the new Saihi and Ivy colours brought out in the latest collection. Are they on par with blacktrack and dipdown? Or are they of a similar quality to Macroviolet? Either way, I would definitely steer clear of this one, or at the very least, try before you buy.

So these are the four most outstanding disappointments to me over the past few years. I am sure I will come across more, but unfortunately, this is what we as beauty junkies are destined to face! So remember, try before you buy, and read reviews before you cough up your money that  you worked hard for!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic festive period!

So as it is the new year and as it is customary to make promises to yourself in the form of "new years resolutions", which I will ultimately no doubt fail to keep! I have decided to tell myself that I will firstly, make the effort to stick to my new years resolutions! Which, are as follows;

1. 2011 is the year my skin will be nice. I have decided that I will stop being young and care free with my skincare routine, instead I will be removing every last morsel of make up before bed and will be the skincare queen when it comes to moisturising. Ultimately, I will have skin like Whitney Port. She is my skin crush! Eew... that sounds weird, but you know what I'm saying! I mean look at it! Who wouldn't want this!

2. My second resolution, and one which seems to be a pretty consistent resolution is to get fit! Of course I will firstly need to get rid of the roses and quality street which are still hanging around from Christmas... How I get rid of them is another matter, but I will get rid of them! As well as cutting out the chocolate (eek, I'm already getting cold sweats) I will make use of the gym membership which costs a blooming fortune! By this, I do not mean i will go back to my usual of going straight to the jacuzzi while swiftly bypassing the treadmills and weights. No, the new me will become the girl in the gym who oozes grace without a bead of sweat on her perfectly polished face (which following resolution number 1, I will have!) Yes, this is who I want to be!

3. My final resolution is to stop excessively straightening, curling, blow-drying my hair. I want soft, pretty and loooooooong hair! My hair has been attempting to grow for years, yet it still remains just past shoulder length. I feel the secret to getting the hair of my dreams is to treat it with love and stop burning the heck out of it! Give a little get a lot is the state if mind I am in. I will have beautiful hair...

So those are my 3 resolutions, I think any more than 3 will be too much for me to handle, and therefore I will give up on them all! Oh well, lets see how long they last this year. Wish me luck!
