So, I am sure we have all felt the pain of bitter disappointment after having just dished out your hard earned cash (be it £3 or£30, the pain is always there!)on a product which simply was not what you had hoped for! Well, fear not, for I am going to tell you some of the worst culprits in my opinion! Now, I will say, that just because I happen to be disappointed with something, it doesn't necessarily mean you will too, different folks different strokes... and all that jazz.
So, lets begin, disappointment numero one!
Mac Zoom Lash
So this was one of my first Mac products I ever bought, before my days of watching YouTube beauty videos, and reading make up blogs. Which, subsequently meant that I hadn't heard the common reviews that Mac mascaras are often not seen as the best. So there I was, handing over my £12 (give or take) for something which i put all my trust in was going to be a great product. I mean, don't get me wrong, I would go as far to say for the first few weeks I was kidding myself by saying that this was a good mascara, simply because the name implied it should be. Luckily I managed to snap out of it and realise that actually, this did nothing for me, it clumped up my lashes, and had too wet a consistency for my liking. This being said, I have heard brilliant reviews on this since, but in my opinion, I would spend your money on a different mascara, favourites of mine include, buxom lash, clinique mascaras in general, and maxfactor false lash effect mascara.
Benefit Some Kind of Gorgeous
I will start this disappointment by saying, that actually, this is a lovely product, my disappointment was in no way about the product, instead it was for how little you get for so much money! ( As a rule, I tend to find Benefit overpriced as it is - yet the cute packaging suckers me in every time!) Again, this was an early purchase within my make up obsession, so was at the time perhaps unaware of how long such a product should last! Now, I don't particularly use a lot of foundation, definitely no more than your average bear. So when i ran out of this in just over a month I was very disappointed! As I am sure you can imagine! It have pondered over whether it was my own compact that somehow didn't come with the right amount of foundation, or if it was simply that this is rather tight with the old productaroony! I am opting for the latter. I definitely feel that there are cream foundations that work just as well, for either a fraction of the price, or with more product!
Korres Lip butter
For this product I was well read, I had listened to reviews watched videos with "gurus" raving about it, and I was well and truly sucked into the hype. How couldn't I be?! They were the lip balm of the moment, with people claiming they had some sort of magic powers on your lips, so I, being me, paid the $10ish dollars ( bought this on holiday) for what I can only describe as... a normal lip balm. I mean it is nice, it smells nice, and it gives a slightly "paling" effect to the lips, but I just cant deny that it isn't anything I haven't seen before, so, In the words of Alan Sugar. "With regret, you're fired!"
MAC Macroviolet fluidline
I am a fluidline junky. I love blacktrack, I love dipdown. So as in November time when I found myself running low I thought I would go festive and go for macroviolet, after all, I (thought) knew that the quality would be good, and it would be nice and pigmented, perfect for Christmas nights out. So you can imagine my disappointment when I brought this home and gave it a whirl only to find that it was by no means on par with the others I had tried. It was a weak colour, by no means was the colour it looked in the pot, if anything it came out just a muddy colour on my eyes. To add insult to injury, this also doesn't have the same staying power as the others, I find myself having to set it with an eyeshadow, just for it to last the working day. I would love to know how people feel about the new Saihi and Ivy colours brought out in the latest collection. Are they on par with blacktrack and dipdown? Or are they of a similar quality to Macroviolet? Either way, I would definitely steer clear of this one, or at the very least, try before you buy.
So these are the four most outstanding disappointments to me over the past few years. I am sure I will come across more, but unfortunately, this is what we as beauty junkies are destined to face! So remember, try before you buy, and read reviews before you cough up your money that you worked hard for!
